THE JUNE SUN-RAISER | 2026
A decisive fundraising campaign supporting the mission of Opportunity Knocks
The June Sun-Raiser is Opportunity Knocks’ summer campaign focused on advancing our vision of “Belonging Without Boundaries.” This year, we are raising funds to improve accessibility, acquire adaptive equipment, expand vocational enterprises, and enhance community spaces so that every person can fully participate. While there is no matching gift component this year, every contribution and shared message helps move these important projects forward. Together, we can create a community where belonging is truly without boundaries.

You can support our effort by spreading the word to your network. Click the button below to take a look at our Sun-Raiser Outreach kit. This toolkit features instructions for social media engagement, a customizable email/letter template, and downloadable campaign photos to enhance those posts and emails.
On June 16th, we kick off the 2026 June Sun-Raiser. This is a newer fundraising campaign for OK, but like other campaigns will focus on Warriors, programs, and partnerships that live in the mission. We’ll articulate how we are highlighting the impact that Warriors have on the communities around them and the many ways they enrich the lives of others. We’re sharing stories from the mission to help you visualize our moment and the challenges we face in major organizational transitions.
Did you know that many employers match their employees’ donations? A matching contribution could double or even triple the impact of your gift. Past donations made during the year may also still be eligible. Don’t wait-use the search box NOW to see if your employer has a matching program.

This year’s Sun-Raiser campaign theme shines a light on active and ongoing endeavors in many areas of the organization. This year’s focus is on Warriors belonging without boundaries. In order to accomplish this feat, we are looking to improve accessibility, acquire more equipment, and much more. Scroll around below to learn more about work done and work in progress.
We have experienced a significant amount of growth in our program enrollment these past few years. Included in that growth is a larger number of individuals who need mobility support devices and require staff and facility support for hygiene, toileting, etc. This daily activity requires staffing and equipment to safely transfer Warriors. This greater endeavor requires that we drive the initiative to improve a building that is long overdue for some basic and advanced accessibility installations. We need improved lift equipment and improved restroom facilities to perform this support in a safe and dignified manner. Our current wish list includes a Hoyer Lift, a wall-mounted changing table, reconfigured bathroom stall systems, door-opening wall plates, and a healthy staff appreciation budget for this hard working team.
Our new lease at the community center has created a new opportunity for us to be entrepreneurial. We have discovered the opportunity to take on the building’s janitorial service on the 2nd floor. This opportunity will help offset the costs in our rent agreement AND afford us the opportunity to create new vocational opportunities. To do the work, we need proper equipment and staff support. We need commercial grade vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers and a dishwasher.
With our new lease comes a new configuration of partnership, space-sharing and equipment sharing agreements. We find ourselves with a long list of needs to properly convene a group. Our current wishlist includes commercial chairs and tables for convening a growing group of staff and Warriors that is now reaching near 40 per day! The space also needs a storage system for personal items, coats, hats, bags.
Year 2 on the NEW Knockout Farm. We are building on last year’s successful installations of landscaping, grow beds, waterway, and irrigation systems. This year, we are aiming to install a compost system and build a deer fence to protect the crops from local wildlife. We are also aiming to make the onsite restrooms accessible to wheelchair users. This will require us to install curb ramps and reconfigure the stall systems. Year 2 will afford us a full season of growing and a full season of improving the area around the growth.
Abbey loves being active and involved, especially at the Knockout Farm. Whether she’s helping with planting, harvesting, or other farm activities, she enjoys being part of the hands-on work that makes the farm such a meaningful place. Working alongside her peers gives Abbey a sense of purpose, pride, and accomplishment. She loves knowing that her contributions help the farm grow and thrive.
As a Warrior who uses a wheelchair, Abbey faces barriers that can make participating in farm activities more difficult. Navigating uneven terrain is one of the biggest challenges. As Abbey explains, “It’s hard because I can’t roll through the grass.” Yet these obstacles have never diminished her desire to be involved. She continues to show up eager to learn, contribute, and take part in every opportunity available to her.
Abbey understands firsthand how important accessibility is. “Accessibility makes it so it’s easier for people in wheelchairs to get around,” she shares. For Abbey, accessibility is the key to independence, participation, and belonging.
Abbey is always looking ahead to what’s next. One of her goals is to learn how to make pickles using vegetables grown right at the farm, allowing her to experience the full journey from planting and harvesting to creating a product.
– IMPACT IN ACTION –
Abbey is always eager to learn new skills, contribute alongside her peers, and embrace new experiences at Opportunity Knocks. As our program continues to grow, so does the number of Warriors who rely on mobility supports and require additional assistance to fully participate in daily activities. To ensure Warriors like Abbey can engage safely, comfortably, and with dignity, Opportunity Knocks is seeking support for critical accessibility upgrades throughout the Knockout Farm and program facilities.
Investments in equipment and facility improvements, including a Hoyer lift, a wall-mounted changing table, reconfigured restroom stalls, and accessible door-opening systems, will help create an environment where every Warrior can fully access opportunities for learning, work, and community engagement. These enhancements will not only improve safety and comfort for Warriors and staff but will also remove barriers that can limit participation.
With these accessibility installations in place, Abbey and her fellow Warriors can focus on what matters most: building confidence, developing new skills, contributing meaningfully to farm and enterprise activities, and experiencing the independence and fulfillment that come from being fully included. Every improvement brings us closer to a community where all Warriors have the support they need to thrive.
A professional crew needs professional equipment and staff support. Opportunity Knocks is looking to upgrade to professional vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and a dishwasher. We envision this enterprise going beyond the community center, and hope to offer professional cleaning services as the newest enterprise from OK.
– IMPACT IN ACTION –
The Warriors at work pride themselves on a job well done, and professional equipment that is adapted to their needs is essential to training a professional cleaning crew. These upgrades, along with the increased staff support necessary for this training, will help create pathways to future employment while enabling the cleaning crew to expand beyond the RFCC and increase meaningful work opportunities for more Warriors.
We understand that this mission is powered by the funds that support it. We appreciate your support. We appreciate the trust and responsibility that come with your support. The value of your donation is tremendous. Here are some important details to express the importance of our work and your support.
We have committed ourselves to the endeavor of overcoming any barrier that keeps Warriors from coming to our program. Mobility and accessibility are atop the list. We hold space in a very outdated building that needs improvements and we are developing a farm space that is also needing significant accessibility installments.

Our approach to programming centers on engagement. Every participant is supported and engaged. This approach requires us to invest in planning and personnel. On average, we have 20 Warriors in a program block. Of those 20, at least 4 require a 1:1 staffing designation to reach the level of engagement we aim to deliver.
%
Our approach to vocational initiatives centers on engagement. Every Warrior at Work is supported and engaged in a productive, growth-oriented workplace. That support varies based on the preparation, but always requires significant staffing investments to maximize the mission.

People who use mobility devices to go through the community and their day encounter significant barriers. OK stands sturdy as a part of the team that supports that movement. From transportation to advocacy, we are committed to making our spaces more accessible and helping community partners see opportunities to make movement more feasible.

A comprehensive study published by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and the University of Sheffield found a direct link between regular gardening and significantly lower stress levels, with the vast majority of regular gardeners reporting notable drops in anxiety. With 40 accessible growing containers, fully outfitted and ready for the season, we’re ready to Knockout some veggies and some stress!

A donation at this level can provide 1 Warrior with 10 weeks of full time programming at Opportunity Knocks. This is what it’s all about!
Mobility assistance and assistive devices for staff to support movement are a high priority for OK this year. We are seeing more and more folks enroll in the program that are using wheelchairs to assist mobility. To support our staff in their roles, we need sturdy equipment like a Hoyer Lift to help transfer to and from the chair.
A special sauce ingredient of OK Programs is engagement. Many Warriors need 1:1 support from staff. A donation of $1000 provides 1 Warrior with 1:1 support for a full session of programming.
We are aiming to add wave-to-open touch plates to the doorways and entrances in the 2nd floor of the community center. Help us remove another barrier to entry for folks who need a little support in their movement. Each doorway requires a $500 investment to outfit.
A donation of $250 can provide a 26-inch tall jumbo modular metal raised garden bed for the new Knockout Farm Site. This spec of garden bed is unique and necessary for our farm model, as the height creates an accessibility that is necessary for Warriors in wheelchairs.
Warriors are at work in the Knockout Kitchen. Warriors are also hungry in programs. Our day program includes the activity of lunch, which includes eating and socializing. This donation can support lunch for 10 Warriors in OK Programs.

Donation of appreciated shares of marketable securities like stocks, bonds and mutual funds is an attractive, tax-wise alternative to a cash contribution.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a centralized charitable account. It allows charitably-inclined individuals, families and businesses to make tax-deductible charitable donations of cash, publicly-traded stock and in some case, certain illiquid assets, to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.

You can donate some or all of the amount of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from an IRA directly to a charity, tax-free. If you’re eligible to do so, you can use a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

Hosting a celebration or memorial is a great way to bring together family and friends or honor a loved one, and can also be an opportunity to increase awareness and support of organizations such as Opportunity Knocks.
