Morning Opps

AN OAK PARK RIVER FOREST HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP

Morning Opportunities is an Opportunity Knocks program that provides activities for the students in Oak Park River Forest (OPRF) High School’s CITE and TEAM (Transitional Education with Access to the Mainstream) classrooms. ‘Morning Opps’, as we like to call it, is offered on Late Arrival Wednesdays throughout the school year when the OPRF faculty and staff participate in professional development training.

Morning Opps begins at 7:45am, as would a normal school day. During the time that the OPRF High School staff training takes place, the OK Staff utilize the high school’s facility to host different activities until the school day begins at 9:30am.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

Activities are often themed or based on the spirit of the season and integrate the Opportunity Knocks approach to adaptive programming. Examples of Morning Opps program activities have included floor hockey, yoga, and arts and crafts.

Activities may also be in partnership with other student groups. For example, in 2015 the Drill Team dancers taught the Warriors a dance that they performed at a football game!

PROGRAM PARTNERSHIPS

  • Opportunity Knocks
  • OPRF High School
  • Best Buddies
  • Other Student Body Groups

This program was specially developed in partnership with OPRF High School. Additionally, program activities are often planned with and implemented by other student body organizations along with OK staff. The growing list includes organizations such as Best Buddies, which has been a partner since day one and, most recently, the Huskie Football Program.
